Strike!

See, the professors (and teachers, nurses, state employees, etc.) are starting to strike as we attempt to negotiate our contracts with a government who prefers to bail out its big businesses instead of assuring a good quality of services to its citizens. We are having rotating strikes, meaning that there are 6 days planned before Christmas. Our first was today. We had to do a 4-hour shift on the picket line (is it how you say it?), and of course, it being October, we were hit by pouring rain the whole time (and it was night, so... yay!) At some point, J. and I were, like our colleagues,  were drenched, so we decided to take a tiny break in her car to attempt a bit of warming. Since my rain boots and rain coats had both forfeited and revealed themselves absolutely inefficient, saying I was cold and wet is a bit of an understatement.

I came home after 3 1/2 hours, they let us go earlier because it was becoming ridiculous (and they didn't want all of us to call in sick the next morning!) It took me about 4 hours to feel vaguely warm and dry. Good thing I came in just in time to put Olivier to bed, though. It definitely helped.
