A First World Problem

Disaster! Very early Sunday morning we had a power cut. Leaving out most of a very long and wearisome story, it seems that one of the cables leading from the consumer unit (as I now know) to a second fuse box has been chewed through by a mouse or similar. The result so far is that we have been visited by UK Power twice to change the mains fuse and by British Gas Homecare twice. Limited power (lighting and sockets in 4 rooms + heating but nothing anywhere else intlcuding the kitchen) was restored on Monday afternoon. I have spent most of the day on the phone to British Gas and EDF (who won't sadly talk to each other). It's going to cost £915 for British Gas to replace the offending cable but they need EDF to install an isolation switch 1st. EDF have refused to do this. They have however said that they will come and remove the mains fuse (but not for 14 days) so that British Gas can work on the system. British Gas need 24 hours to arrange a date. All of this of course has to be co-ordinated. I am fast losing the will to live.
