Dublin's first public cinema

... the brainchild of James Joyce who purchased a site on Mary St and built, opened, and ran the Volta in 1909. This pic from a bit later! It closed for good in 1948. The site is now a boring old Penney's chainstore.

Pic of a pic behind glass - taken in the museum - it looks as if there is something inside the cinema but that's an illusion, it is things from the museum reflected in the glass - several portraits of Joyce.
