deer rub

I am exceptionally busy at work at the moment and have missed catching up with blip.

Today I finished work near East Mids Airport and took the chance to pop into NT Calke Abbey , it was welcome fresh air albeit gloomy and wet. There was still a little bellowing going on as the rut comes to an end and I was delighted to spot this stag at what is clearly his well used rubbing stick.

They are used to remove the antler velvet in the early season and to leave a scent that communicates a challenge to other stags while also attracting potential mates.
