The New Zealand Native Pigeon or Kereru.

Blip Mate and I climbed the hill behind Kaiteriteri this morning in the hope of hearing and seeing a bell bird again. We were in luck on both counts.

Returning to the car we startled a large native pigeon or kereru which flew to a low branch on a nearby tree. I have read that kereru stuff themselves so full they find it difficult to fly and I think this one was suffering from just that as I was able to walk right up to him.  He was still there when we left.

The fat Kereru is my blip today. Riwaka7 has blipped the bell bird if you want to take a look. In my extras are two not very good shots of the bell bird singing his glorious song.
