Remnants of Empire

This is the Gateway of India. It commemorates the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911 and was completed in 1924. Designed by a Scottish architect, George Wittet. It was subsequently used as the entry point for various viceroys and governors and also by the last British troops to leave in 1948 at the end of British rule.

Extras include the Taj Mahal Palace hotel nearby, the scene of the terrible terror attack in 2008, plus some cricket action from the Mumbai Oval Maidan recreation ground as I was strolling about.
