Survivor

This lady is an incredible woman. Fact.

In October 1944 she was 10, and because she couldn't tell the SS guards where her doctor father was, they took her instead of him and shipped her off to Bergen-Belsen.

Because she was just a child on arrival she was consigned to the 'too sick to work, leave them to die' barracks, as opposed to the 'let's work them to death' barracks.

On April 15, 1945 when the camp was liberated by the British armed forces, Yvonne was suffering with typhus and had just lapsed into a coma. When she awoke weeks later it was to find herself in a clean white bed in a British military hospital.

She shared her story with us with humour and laughter and left us all in awe.
