Dia de los Muertos
Day of the Dead,

Not a scary Halloween-type celebration.
But a time to honor the memory of those who’ve passed.
An acknowledgement of death being an inevitable part of life.
The tradition began in Mexico, and
Embraced by the multicultural Southwest, US

Skulls are the ultimate symbol,
For they are what is left after we’ve shed our earthly existence.
Today the line between the living and the dead are blurred.
Skeletons dress-up, dance, smile, play the banjo.
Really coming alive.

There’s a belief that on this day
The portal between the worlds is opened.
Giving us a chance to communicate with those who've passed.
Perhaps to express our love or
Right a wrong.
A time of introspection.
