Roller(Coracias garrulus)juvenile

A very pale Roller, that I've researched as being a juvenile in Winter plumage. In the spring this bird will be stunning in very bright turquoise, violet and electric blue feathers. As you can see they are fond of perching on thorn bushes and this one has some wickedly sharp thorns on it. This is probably why he let me take his portrait, knowing I wouldn't be able to get any closer! This bird is quite large, but for scale he's slightly smaller than a pigeon. A lovely bird to spot and photograph because as soon as you see them(usually) they fly off.
