A 17th century villa which was later significantly added to by the Dalrymple family who were influential figures of the Scottish Enlightenment. It is a superb example of James Smith's domestic Palladian architecture. The grounds are an important 18th century designed landscape with woodland walks, open parkland and the remains of water-gardens including a shell grotto
