Through a lens darkly

Through your eyes

A friend told me about an amazing field of research into making artificial retinas, to help blind people see again. Some of these prosthetic retinas are sensitive to light that is beyond what natural retinas can detect, far into the near infra-red.

This made me wonder how the world would look if you had one of these implants. How would your brain interpret the signals? Would you have to re-learn how to interpret visual data?

So, I tried to make a blip that explored that idea - it's the Physics building at Exeter university (appropriately).

If you want to read some more, here's a site I picked at random about this kind of research.
