Will and Bob

Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells
Talking to some French girl
Who says she knows me well

Bob Dylan - Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again

Stuck in St Stephen's Street here in Bristol, thousands of miles from Mobile, there a building which features busts of Shakespeare, Milton and Tennyson.  Whenever I walk past it I find myself humming the words to the old trickster's improbably titled song.  Its got such great little vignettes that almost seem to make sense.

The building was originally built as a warehouse back in 1878 when it was built.  Its close to what would once have been the quayside in the centre of Bristol's harbour, although this particular part of the harbour was culverted over many years ago, so there is very little evidence of the original harbourside nowadays.  The building has fallen on hard times, although it doesn't yet qualify for the Derelict challenge.  I shall have to try to find something else for that one :-)
