Warp and Weft

Over many decades I have been the lucky recipient of gifts from the children, all made by little fingers and somewhat bigger ones. The ones of earlier years were all given with the profession of undying love for the best Mummy in the world. Then the gifters grew up, saw me as a flawed human after all and the gifts were more often than not, bought ones, as time and life interfered with childish creativity.
I still have all these childhood gifts -the clay elephant with the unintentional winking eye and the slightly wonky looking bowls to the elegant silver bangle, earrings and beautiful paintings from art college years. I treasure them all with the memories they invoke.

How lovely was it then to have daughter#2 come round to the Dower house last night with this tapestry she made for my birthday, inspired by Orkney and its home spun North Ronaldsay wool.

She has in the past been more noted for her stitch work on injured hands and arms than for creative needlework, so it is all the more precious to have this especially made for me.

Thank you Jane; keep up the good work, but I suspect the day job will always pay more.
