Ali the Cobbler

Ali is one of the nicest men in Kas. If you pass his tiny little shop and he is not busy (which seems to be most of the time) he will greet you with a loud "Merhaba" and invite you in for a glass of apple chai. He reminds me of my childhood, growing up in a little village in Yorkshire. Many such villages had a local cobbler but they were all gone by the 1950's. Kas has all the modern conveniences you could wish for, from hi-tec televisions to smart phones (and fast broadband to go with them - faster than many parts of the USA even), but it also has a local cobbler. I think that's fantastic. The old and the new sitting cheek by jowl!
