Buildings of Edinburgh - The Chuch of St John Evan

We had a lovely day. We started with coffee at a coffee morning organised by a friend who has run the charity Edinburgh Clothing Store. She has done this on a voluntary basis for many years. We bought some brownies, gingerbread, some sweets and a beautiful Cyclamen plant. We went into town and had an indulgent lunch. We're now back home on a dreich cold day, sitting with coffee and chocolate. Waiting for the bus home I decided to take the camera into the iconic church of St John Evangelist.

The Church of St John the Evangelist is a Scottish Episcopal church at the west end of Princes Street. It is protected as a category A listed building. It was dedicated as St John's Chapel in 1818 with construction having begun in 1816. It was designed by the architect William Burn at the age of 25. It has a small but lively congregation and is politically committed, displaying many radical posters and banners. The current campaign is against slavery.
