Derelict Sunday - The Old School

This is what's left of the primary school which all 3 of our lads attended - we had at least one of them there for 17 years from 1987 to 2004, so it's a bit sad to see it in this state. It has many happy memories for us - especially of the annual school pantomime. Our 3 boys played, respectively, the Prince in Snow White, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, and an Ugly Sister in Cinderella! The land has been sold for housing since the school merged with another and moved to a new building on a different site.

It really is the end of an era, as my 2 brothers and I attended the "same" school for 3 years each; I was there from 1957-1960, although at that time it was in an old stone building on the same site. So now what I always thought of as the "new" building" has been demolished as well.

There's a history of the school here (including a rather fun time-lapse video of the new school being constructed) - it goes back quite a long way, at least to 1769, and further if one includes the teaching occurring at the nearby church. Notable alumni (apart from our family!!) include Robert Stephenson and Thomas Addison.

Many thanks to freespiral for hosting derelict Sunday :)
