Eaglesham Covenanters

Although I've been in the village of Eaglesham many times, till today I had never been in the churchyard.

While I was walking round I came across an information board telling the story of two local Covenanters who were buried there in the 17th century. Covenanters faced steep fines or even execution for expressing their faith and held their religious services in secret.

There is a memorial to two Covenanters in this churchyard called Robert Lockhart and Gabriel Thomson who were both shot by Highlandmen and Dragoons for their adherence to the Solemn League and Covenance as they returned from a coventicle in May 1685.
