Ramblings from Zambia....

Coming off the ship............

After stopping at Chizumulu island to offload cargo around 12 midnight, we reached Likoma at sunrise just after 5am!  By this time the lake was very choppy, and being Malawi, with no modern methods of doing things, we had to jump from the ship into boats to be taken to the island!  Its difficult enough jumping into a boat when the sea is smooth but believe me it was an experience!  Even when we were in the boat, it was really choppy and took quite a few minutes to reach the shore!  Once reaching the shore, we jumped into the water and carried our luggage to the beach, where we were met by some people to assist us!

I had taken off my shoes before jumping into the water, and given them to my friend!  However, he was pushed and the shoes were knocked out of his hands into the water anyway!  No need to be fussy here - it was extremely hot on the island and they dried very quickly.

I spent the day visiting the incredible Anglican Cathedral on the island, and then did a tour of the whole island in the afternoon!

Wonderful day...
