Still Life Test

Test shot for photography degree assignment. The basic idea is there, I just need to play around with props and lighting until I'm a bit happier with it.

It's supposed to be a still life that tells a story. Half the time I think it's too obvious and half the time I think it's too obscure.

When I submit it for assessment I do add a bit of explanation on what I'm trying to achieve. But I'm curious if anyone can decipher the message from the photo alone...!?
