Cool as a....

The latest viral video craze hinges on the fact that cats are, apparently,  terrified of cucumbers. Clips show startled felines leaping into the air when they spot a long green shape  surreptitiously placed behind them. Vets are warning that the trauma could do lasting psychological damage and we should all refrain from playing vegetable japes on furry friends who may harbour a primitive snake phobia.

Being naturally sceptical I tried the cucumber trick on some of my cats. Old rat catcherTablet (top) didn't even appear to notice it when he awoke from a snooze brown study. Truffle (right) simply looked  bored while Mr Squeers (left) decided that a palate cleanser was just what he needed and started munching with enthusiasm.

Obviously my cats are much too cool for social media memes.
