The Death of an Old Friend

This magnificent old cypress tree which probably predates the churchyard that it sits in by 100 years or so, tomorrow, will be no more. Up to yesterday it played host to church goers who sheltered under the fierce Symi summer sun. I have watched countless species of birds perch on its branches including our local scops owl and little owl. Coal tits, finches, sparrows, hoopoes to name just a few; butterflies, lizards, gechos and the rest all from our balcony. You will be missed.
You may ask why cut down this tree for it is not rotten nor damaged; I do not know. You must ask the caretaker, or God.
