Spiderman

I wish he could rescue what I'm hearing inside this room.

Day two of 'Safeguarding for taxi drivers'. A bunch of lovely, thoughtful, compassionate drivers and escorts who spend their lives taking vulnerable people from one place to another and caring for their sometimes unpredictable needs and behaviours. The training is compulsory and they arrive anxious and fearful. Why? Because when they were at school they were told, again and again, that they were useless and would never amount to anything. Most people recounting these things are in their 40s and 50s but it comes from younger people too.

Emotional abuse is one of the things safeguarding training aims to eradicate. These people are already experts.

And our current government is hell-bent on moving back to measuring people's worth by whether they are good at the narrow and pretty useless specialism of academia.

No, rant not over. Not until we stop abusing people in this way.

PS They have to do a test. The pass mark is 80%. So far everyone has passed.
