Shag

A walk at the estuary turned into a sit at the estuary when I came across this shag (one of the cormorant family) sitting on a stump at the side of the track. I perched on a stump on the other side of the path and watched. He was not in the least bit nervous of me being so close or of the walkers and cyclists passing between us.

With camera trained on him, I watched while he preened every feather, several times over. I thought  he would surely do something interesting before too long, so continued waiting. Then he had a nana nap. (See extra)

Finally when two other shags flew overhead calling,  my one stretched and raised his head to the sky before plopping into the water and swimming away. And that was about as interesting as it got.
