He shocked us

Not even 3 months past since we said goodbyes to our former colleague  and today he came along to tell us about how his pre-pension treated him... not good as since 2 months he's ill and diagnosed with cancer of the digestive system. His bodysize alarmed us before he'd told us his latest news. We all hope for miracles and his recovery... such shocking news it is.
