Working as a guard in the Evil Emperor T'hrin's Black Cloud wasn't too bad a career. There was a good pension plan and the Emperor, whilst undeniably evil, had provided a very competitive healthcare package.

On the down side, the guards were occasionally called upon to quell rebel uprisings but, contrary to what you might expect, the heavily-armed, well-equipped and professionally-trained troops always beat the small bands of disorganised rebels.
