Pride 2012

I love the Gay Pride march each summer in Dublin. I've never felt excluded, everyone is in their peacock colours and happy to be photographed. Far too smily of course. Difficult to get people who aren't afflicted by that ubiquitous 'Yay!' grin (I usually ask them to not smile, because it makes everyone look the same).

Interesting the way the name is often abbreviated to 'the Pride march', or just 'Pride'. And appropriate really; though I am no nationalist I feel something closer to pride in my city during such an occasion: a great fairytale burst of wishful thinking: cardboard wings, impossibly high heels, luridly unlikely shades of flamingo, silver, purple, absinth... all the gayest ripples in the rainbow.
