The rugby player

A gritty portrait of a gritty, tough player who marked his 250th game a captain for a Gloucester team. Mono is great for all rugby photos, a sport that lends itself to the 'look'.
I have memories of using Tri-X, uprated to 800iso, for shooting rugby games when it was too wet for football, for a weekly paper early in my career (my Saturday job from college, while friends worked in shops).
Gritty because I had to shoot at 6400iso to have a hope of getting photos in the murky, rainy weather, late in the afternoon. Fingers crossed too for some decent action in the second half, when I got to the game.
I've dried out and warmed up now though.
