Life from a City

Seacroft Clock Tower

It's Derelict Sunday, so on the way home this morning, I drove through the old Seacroft Hospital grounds. It was built in 1904, as an infectious diseases hospital, and, in about 1918, housed my grandfather for several months as a child.

The old hospital was utterly charming, as the clock tower indicates, but hopelessly dilapidated and expensive to run, so most of it has been sold to developers, who have knocked large sections down and are going to build a housing estate. The clock tower is being retained. I love the way the ivy is now engulfing the building - it just shows how much effort there had been before the area was sold to stop that from happening.
