Korca to Permet, Albania

Our first stop on the long journey we had ahead of us was a prehistoric burial mound in Kamenica, near Korça. This had been partly excavated and has been recently opened to the public. It is thought that the mound was used between the 13th to 6th centuries BC. The 'Big Circle' around the central grave (used for the most important person in the village) was the main focus of the excavation (photo in flickr set for this date).

We made other stops to do some mooching around in the countryside and climb a very steep hill for panoramic views of the mountains and the Vjosa river. We arrive in Permet early evening and there was some time to wander through the town and mingle with the locals. The children were playing football in the main square. The men were off to the right on the steps talking over the day's events. The women appeared to be shopping.

More of the day's photos Here, if you're interested.
