Review

At the event there was a brief laser show
before a series of short films
were screened.

I quite enjoyed two of them.

After the films we were ushered
into a room with a bar
where a book launch
was taking place.

There was free wine but no nibbles.

People read from the book.

It had some sort of theme
that tied in with the films
we’d watched.

Most of the readers were nervous
and ill prepared
but , nevertheless,
quite pleased with themselves.

The one who irritated me the most
started off by saying
he hated Alan Yentob.

He didn’t qualify this statement.

I think, really, he just wanted
to let us know
that he’d once been in the same room as Alan Yentob.

After the readings a young woman sang
some of her own songs
about love and heartbreak.

I think she may have been introduced
as the Queen of Heartbreak.

She had a good voice
but all four songs were the same song.

I think that most of the performers
and most of the small audience
knew each other.
