Negative Space

At the Photographic Society last night, the judge came to give his views on submitted monochrome prints.

I purposefully hadn't submitted, and oh boy, was I affirmed in not doing.

Several superb images (including this one) dismissed, whilst other arguably more conventional images got the highlight.

He stated that he didn't appreciate lots of black areas. Then he went on to say - about one sublime, should-have-been winner, snow scene on the Yorkshire Wolds - "I don't get or like negative space".

Duh.
