I've had a couple of people ask me recently about the 'little camera' I carry when I'm not prepared to carry a DSLR.  

Usually it's this (now rather elderly) Nikon 1 V1 - usually with a 10mm wide angle lens.  It took me a while to get used to the rather convoluted manual controls but generally I'm pretty happy with this as my always-with-me camera.  It shoots RAW, and has all the manual controls I want - and the image quality is good.  And I've used it to take more than 50% of this years blips!

The only real caveats - it's a bit more fragile than the D700 I usually carry, and it struggles in  poor light.
