Darkness Falls

It is a dark time when 300 million Americans own guns. Our hospital trauma units are visited daily by those injured and/or dying from careless or deliberate gunshot wounds. Senseless killings seem to occur with banal regularity. To curtail this madness seems to be beyond us. 
Yet, the trees in the park near my home lift their arms to the darkening sky with great patience, the grass beneath them holds the fallen leaves with grace and wonder, and my heavy spirit takes refuge.
