Hot Chestnuts

You can always tell when the festive period is upon us as the old traditional food stalls appear. This stall cropped up on Henley Street today as we were in Nero having a coffee. The weather was not good for them but after a while they started doing a steady business.

Chestnuts and toffee apples remind me of my childhood back in the dark ages. Every October the fair would come to Hull for a week and besides for the numerous stalls and rides I always remember the hot chestnuts and brandy snap we bought to eat on the way home.

The only difference I guess is the cost; today's are £3 per bag compared with a tanner yesteryear.
