Hiking to the Cascada

Today we hiked across beautiful farmland then down a steep mountainside through pine forests to a waterfall far below. This maguey plant is one of the biggest I have seen. The tree behind is a wild crab apple loaded with fruit.
Corn fields are located on extremely steep slopes, and we waved to farmers gathering the cornstalks and beginning to plow for the next planting. At this altitude (over 10,000 ft.) the corn grows slowly so is planted in February.
Many of the pine trees are over 100 ft. tall and straight as an arrow. Most of this land is community land of various indigenous villages, and they practice strict conservation of the forests.
