Princes Street at dusk from Calton Hill

We're here in Edinburgh for a couple of nights having travelled up by train from Newcastle.  It is such a short and easy journey and whenever we do it, we wonder why we don't do it more often!  I studied and lived here for five years in the early nighties and I love being back.

We're staying in a hotel close to the station and once we dropped outr bags and had a quick cup of tea we headed for a wander round the streets and to take in the atmosphere of the city nearing Christmas.  We hadn't been out long when the heavens opened and we took refuge in a coffee shop for tea and a scone.  As we emerged the sun was setting and we dashed up Calton Hill but sadly the sky was pretty disappointing. I took a few quick shots but we couldn't stay for long as we had plans to meet friends for dinner and had to get back to the hotel to get ready.  We had a fantastic evening with friends who I have known since uni days but have not seen for a considerable time and who Ernie had not met.  It was great to be able to introduce him and to catch up on the intervening years which melted away like we had seen each other last week.

The extra is of the Witchery restaurant on High Street which when I lived here was the place where you hoped your boyfriend would take you for dinner!  Needless to say I was never taken there!!!
