THE PIGEON & THE CHERRIES...

Spot the bird - it's part of a 19th century printing block. The core wood is poplar (I think - something soft & shock absorbing anyway), the bright contours are maple & the in fills are felt to absorb the dye.

Turn it over (extra) & you'll see the hand grips & the splits in the poplar where it has been battered by mallets to apply the image to the fabric.
