France decides

Round 2 of the regional elections.

After Round 1 last Sunday, anyone with less than 10% of the votes cast is eliminated and the others (if they wish to) go through to Round 2.

It can get a bit tactical, as the main left and right parties don't like the National Front upsetting their apple carts, so sometimes they will opt out of Round 2 in an attempt to prevent the NF from winning.

It hasn't happened here. We have a straightforward 3 way fight for our new Region, which has recently been created out of the merger with next door neighbouring region.

Traditionally the French use Round 1 as protest vote, then revert to supporting one of the two main parties in Round 2. It will be interesting to see if this time the NF can hang on to its share of the vote in the light of all protests against the immigration policy.
