Loftus Hall..

built on the of an 11th century castle, Loftus Hall, known then as Redmond Hall, was built in1350 was lived in by the Redmond family until 1650. It then was acquired by English planters, the Loftus family..in 1800 the then
Baron Loftus was created Marquis of Ely and it was his descendant, the 4th Marquis, who demolished the old Hall and built the present house in 1870.
Of course it comes with a ghost story..in 1766 Charles Tottenham, his daughter Anne and his second wife came to mind the house while the Loftus family were away on business. During a storm a ship took shelter at Hook Peninsula and a young man was welcomed into the mansion. While playing cards one night Anne bent down to pick up a dropped card and saw the man had  cloven feet,  when she said it to the man he rose up through the roof leaving a large hole. Soon Anne became mentally ill, refused food or drink and died looking out the window of the Tapestry Room waiting for the man to return. It is believed he did return and caused persistent poltergeist activity, both Protestant clergymen and a Catholic priest were called on to exorcise the house. However, there has been frequent   sightings of a young woman, presumed to be Anne Tottenham, and she was seen on the first tour of the house when it was opened as a tourist attraction in 2011.
