Moody river

We really are in the bleak mid-winter. Today has been grey, cold and damp. Happily Christmas is coming, and before that we are only eight days away from the shortest day, after which the daylight will start lengthening towards spring. Hooray.

In the woods behind our house, woodpeckers have been busy drumming all afternoon. They must be preparing early for spring!

This view of the Thames at Greenhithe is very much a mid-winter scene, relieved by the lovely red hull of the ship in the distance. I love this spot, it looks subtlely different every time I'm there. Always an eye magnet.
