Tiny Tuesday--Christmas

In 1984 Department 56 came out with the "Dickens' Village Series", which "commemorated the architecture, customs and history of Victorian England", & which was inspired by the classic novels of Charles Dickens--my favorite being the ever popular Christmas Carol! (It's tradition in our house to watch the 1951 version of it while wrapping Christmas gifts!) My sister-in-law had the entire set of houses and shops & set it up every year at Christmas. After Jennie was born & was old enough to appreciate them--maybe 3 or 4 y.o.--, we'd both sit and look at the lit up buildings & choose our favorite, which for both of us was the one pictured here--"The Old Curiosity Shop"! I think we both liked it the best as I have an entire set of china that was made in the early 1950's that's called "The old Curiosity Shop" & each piece features items from the shop in Dicken's Book, and which we use each year around Christmas time. I bought this one on Ebay in the mid to late 1990's and Jen & I always enjoyed setting it up with the tiny people, trees, lights and snow, & having this tiny bit of a village to look at during the holidays! :))
