NEW FAMILY ORPHANAGE!

If I thought it was sad to leave the kids in Thailand, this one actually broke my heart. After arriving in Chennai, India we visited a local church and the orphanage it sponsored. Infanticide is common in India, especially of the girl children. The directors of the Home told us the saddest stories about children being abandoned or literally thrown away because their families couldn't afford to feed them. The level of poverty in India is extreme, and there's constantly people trying to sell you something or beg you for money, and it's really hard to not give every one of them something. We got to play with all the kids and just hold them and tell them they were loved. They slept on the ground with no pillows and a leaky roof and they were still the happiest kids I've ever met! I've never been more thankful for the foster/adoption system of the United States, where kids are matched with families and all children are taken care of physically and emotionally.
