Ms. Douglas Squirrel, last seen here in a frustrated mood, seems to be commenting on the quality of the locally-made suet cake in our feeder in this image. She'd already taken the edge off her hunger, followed by several minutes of quiet contemplation of the scenery (see extra), before returning for seconds and providing this pose for me.

The squirrels and birds at the feeder were among the many pleasures we enjoyed during an overnight visit from our friends A (Endless Weekend) and D, who came up from Seattle yesterday. We shared some of the best of Bellingham with them, starting with lunch at La Fiamma Pizza, followed by time at the "Unhinged: Book Art on the Cutting Edge" exhibition at Whatcom Museum, which I enjoyed even more the second time, and will visit again before it closes on January 3. Dinner was easy, as we stopped at Manpies and Mallard Ice Cream before leaving downtown Bellingham, bringing our choices to relish at home by candlelight. There was much talk of travel, both theirs and ours, as well as the joys of retirement, families, friends, plays, books, and the past, present, and future.

I gave A my Olympus XZ-1, as she'd been wanting a small camera to carry with her when she didn't want to bring her big one, and here's a fascinating coincidence -- the very first photo I posted on Blipfoto using that camera, in August 2012, was this!

Maybe today's subject is that one's great-granddaughter!
