poppies

poppies are strange things, even by the weirdness of the plant world - they can lurk underground for years, never showing a flower, then all of a sudden one summer the corn will be all but invisible beneath the waving red petals. it would look all the lovelier on a sunny day, but i'm not here long this trip and beggars can't be choosers!
