Christmas beyond the black stump

Bushfires have destroyed great swathes of land north of Adelaide recently. It destroyed life and limb, many houses and stock, and created many local heroes. But there's a sense of humour and defiance studded along the road north with a series of Christmas trees. As we noted the grim, dust-stormy vistas, saddened at the loss, we saw these and knew that the will to rise above it is here.

While I write this, more huge fires are burning on Victoria's Great Ocean Road. Much devastation there too.
