A Miracle on Christmas Eve

After Mum's very nasty fall on Tuesday, we were all concerned that she hadn't been checked over by a doctor or nurse to make sure nothing was broken.  She finally agreed to go along to the Colchester walk-in medical centre after her friends at the Thursday morning communion service told her she really ought to go there.  Everyone seemed to be busy shopping on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, so we found the walk-in clinic practically empty and Mum was seen by a lovely nurse quite quickly.  I went into the X-ray room with her and Andy the Radiographer, who did three plates of Mum's arm in various positions while I stood behind the screen with him.  Not only did he confirm that Mum's arm has no fracture at all, but he said that her bone density is pretty good for her age.  This is nothing short of a miracle, as she was diagnosed with osteoporosis many years ago.  Fortunately, she was able to have two very expensive intravenous procedures on the NHS which she was told would build up a new outer layer of bone to help prevent fractures.  Now we know that the treatment worked, and we're all very thankful for that.  At the moment she has a lot of pain and weakness in her right arm where she fell onto it, but hopefully the bruises and soft tissue damage Mum sustained will heal over time.
