a good question, for another time

Well...
Relief: it hits required marks; it's unlike the prequels - it's a shame that it's impossible to ignore them, or ignore the effect they have had in making this sort of film something to be wary of.
It almost seems more a like a normal character space film, but that's probably because that's all there have been for thirty-two years. It's also weird that there's a new one, whose every beat and line and wipe and sound effect is not yet familiar.
After viewing for the first time, after the reflection of the ride home, it seems like it was aiming for third, confident of getting it. That said, the one I want to see next is this one again. It's very much not a fair comparison to compare an archetype and its compelling follow-up with a thousand viewings between them to something seen once, bearing the anticipation begat by the originals and the dread by the prequels.
I noticed the flying, the dialogue, the story. I didn't remember the music, except where it was a noticeable reference to earlier. I expect it'll bed in after a few more watchings.
