Happy Christmas from Lost Creek

It was some of the strangest, warmest weather I've ever experienced at Christmas, and records were broken in many places. The highs for the day across the state were in the 50s and 60s F.

And so, in honor of the odd weather, my husband and I decided that on the way back down to visit my family for Christmas (which we eventually did, and had lots of fun!), we'd stop and have a wade in Lost Creek. Just because we'd never done it before! Go wading on Christmas day, that is.

So we packed up our chairs and our stream wading shoes, and off we went. We parked near the Lost Creek Rod & Gun Club, where my brother and dad are members, and walked up the creek a ways. There we set up our chairs and put on our water shoes and began to wade.

The water was chilly, but then again, it always is. It may have been a bit colder than when we wade there in summer, but not by much. We climbed on the rocks, waded in the water, and played in the sandy spots.

But we were careful, as it was quite slick in spots. My husband and I snapped photos of each other to prove that we did it, and so here is a photo of me, amphibious girl, at Christmas.

When we'd had our fill of wading, we dried off our feet (bringing a tiny towel along is very civilized) and hiked the rest of the way up the stream to the falls on Lost Creek. You may visit the falls yourself by taking a look at the extra photo.

The falls are rather well known in our area, but most people only hike there in the summer, when it's hot. The temperature in the creek and surrounds can be very refreshing and cool in summertime.

Hiking up to the falls and wading there is something we often do with relatives at my dad's family's reunion each July. Several prior blips feature the reunion at the cabin in these woods, which are always cool and green and shady.

The July reunion is a nice combination of family, food, and outdoor time, and I look forward to it each year. It's often the only opportunity I get to visit Lost Creek each year. So getting to wade in the creek and hike to the falls on Christmas day will be something to remember!

It is my custom to accompany each blip posting with a song, and in honor of this posting about a Christmas day that seemed more like spring or summer than winter is Bing Crosby, with Mele Kalikimaka.
