After the storm

Before our guests arrived we managed to potter down to the river and the canal to see what's what.
The floods had receded but there's some cleaning up to be done. Here's the garage at the bottom of the road with the inspection pit still full of flood water. Men were out clearing mud and silt from the road and glad of the beautiful sunny morning.
The river was very high still, but with the gates on the flood lock closed the canal was even more peaceful than usual and the banks were full of anglers in competition.
When we got home we had two of our daughters arrive with blokes and nippers. A good lunch, then a change of shift and the arrival of a brother with my niece and nephew (mum and other nephew at home ill) and another nephew with wife and 2 little ones including newest member of the family, Arthur, who is just 7 weeks.
A good tea with the statutory pork pie (fab) and chocolate and cherry trifle. We can still just about walk!
A lovely family day.
