Around Luxor

By LivinginLuxor

A hard day at work.....

Today is the feast of Abu el Haggag who built one of the earliest mosques in Luxor, on top of Luxor temple. Egypt is a highly traditional country, and the parade that happened today, although within a Muslem context, can be linked back to pharaonic times - the floats are boat shaped, as was the sacred barque that brought the god Amun from Karnak, along the avenue of sphinxes to Luxor Temple for a fortnight of feasting and celebrations.

Today was quite warm - about 44C!, and this guy was relaxing in his truck outside a sweet stall - best way to try to ignore the warmth is to have a siesta!
